Colt 1860 Army "Long Cylinder" .44 cal rim fire conversion
Colt 1860 Army "Long Cylinder" .44 cal rim fire conversion. Three screw "cut for stock" frame. This is a controversial conversion that has been attributed to the Colt factory by R. L. Wilson in his Book of the Colt Revolver, but more likely was done by an independent gunsmith. The May 1979 Gun Report has a detailed article by D. Keith Kasonis on this conversion. Standard 8 inch barrel retains the original loading lever. Right recoil shield has been grooved for a cartridge. Gun was reblued when converted, most of which remains. The cylinder has turned plum brown. It doesn't show much use. Colt serial numbers match except for the new cylinder and wedge, which don't have a serial number. Frame, backstrap, trigger guard, barrel and cylinder have the number 36, which is an assembly number. There is no "Colt's Patent" stamp on the frame and it doesn't look as though there ever was one. There are very few examples of this conversion known. A copy of the Gun Report article goes with the gun. Price$6000 (US) ConditionsCertified check or money order ships on receipt.
