Colt Lightning Slide Action Rifle, Medium Frame 44-40, stamped "Goliad, Texas"

Colt Lightning slide action rifle, medium frame 44-40.  26 inch octagonal barrel marked 44-40 cal and Colt's Pt FA MFG. Co. USA, Elliot's Patent May 29, 1883, Sept 1883.  Second year of production with no dust cover.  Has bolt safety on trigger guard.  The frame is stamped "Goliad, Texas" on the left side.  #1907 is stamped on both sides.  I believe the gun was the property of the Goliad Police Department and the number is probably an inventory number.  The gun retains most of its original blue turned to plum.  Minor nicks a scratches but no corrosion.  Bore needs cleaning.  No cracks in the stock.  Doesn't show a lot of use.  Rare early model with a Texas identification.
