Early 18th century Mediterranean Dirk with Walrus Ivory Hilt in the form of a Dog

Early 18th century Mediterranean Dirk with carved walrus ivory hilt in the form of a dog with silver eyes holding a shield.  The hilt is probably later and possibly done by a sailor since the material is walrus and this style knife was popular with sailors.  Single-edged Spanish or Italian blade signed "AV" in a punched cartouche with a punch mark on each side.  Original leather scabbard with silver mounts.  A few spots of light corrosion on the blade.  Overall length 12 1/4 inches with a 6 inch blade.
