English Hanger with Tutenag Hilt, circa 1770-80
English hanger, circa 1770-80. An unusual hilt made of "Tutenag", an early form of German silver. The grip covering is fishskin, dyed green with silver wire wrapping. When polished, the guard looks like like silver but is much stronger. Overall length is 32 inches with a 26 inch flat curved single edged blade marked with an arrow and the letter "I" at the top. The scabbard is green leather matching the grip and is decorated with incised lines and dots. Silver mounts. A very attractive sword in fine condition.
