Cased Pair of Percussion Turn Over Pistols by Needler of Hull, England
Cased pair of double barrel turn over pistols signed Needler of Hull, England. Formerly a gunsmith in London. Circa 1840. Barrels are rotated by hand on a spindle with one hammer. Overall length, 8 1/2 inches with two 3 3/4 inch .45 caliber smooth bore octagonal barrel. Octagonals bored in a single bar of iron. Engraved frames and hammers. English proofed barrels have original blue. Frames are case hardened. One frame is blue-ish on one side. One frame screw has been replaced. Finely checkered grips with a silver escutcheon plate. Engraved iron butt plates and trigger guards with cap boxes in the butt. Signed Needler Hull on top of frames. Original mahogany box with brass plate in top. Original maroon lining with Needler's label where states he was from London. Compartment flask by Sykes with original finish. One very small dent. Iron ramrod with a brass tip which controls a screw for removing a ball. Percussion cap box and wad. A few lead balls and a key in lidded compartment. A superb set showing very little use.
