American Silver Lion Head Sword, circa 1770

American silver hilted hanger with lion head.  Unusual style with an open mouth.  Circa 1770.  D guard with four cut out areas surrounded by wavy bars.  Front of D guard has grooves and curled decorations.  Shell design on tail of guard.  Four illegible hall marks on inside of the D and two on the bottom of the cross guard.  Definitely not English.  Horn grip with a silver band.  Hilt is in excellent condition.  27 inch blade with a slight curve.  Single narrow fuller at the back and wider groove down the middle.  Blade lightly pitted with nicks on the tip.  There is a forging flaw just under the guard.  33 inches overall.  Damaged scabbard lacking mounts.
