German Percussion Lock Pistol by Tanner, circa 1825 to 1850
German percussion pistol signed "Tanner-Hannover" on the lock in a gold backed cartouche. C. D. Tanner worked in Hanover, Germany from 1825 to 1850. Overall length is 14 inches with an 8 1/2 inch .52 caliber octagon rifled barrel with a patent breech. Fully stocked in what appears to be striped maple. Checkered butt. No cracks but there are a number of dents. The hammer and lock are decorated with a foliated design with a snake's head in front. German silver trigger guard with a finger rest decorated with an engraved foliated design in an urn. German silver ram rod pipes. Original ram rod is missing a section within the stock. Barrel and lock very crisp with no corrosion. Single set trigger. Lock works fine. Hanover had close connections with the British crown which may explain the English design.
